Hims & Hers Super Bowl Ad: Not Actually Changing the System

You might have seen the Hims & Hers super bowl commercial. In many ways I think it was pretty great. It criticises the culture and systemic issues that have led to more obesity in the United States. They insinuate name brand GLP-1s are “Priced for profits not patients,” while their medication is “Affordable, doctor trusted.”
I want to challenge Hims… Why do you advertise and encourage patients who are new to this medication to buy 12 months upfront? GLP-1 medication is amazing, but it may not be very effective for ~10% of patients. What happens when they buy a year of medication upfront? Why do you not have transparent pricing? Why can your patients not cancel at any time?
This feels awfully like your GLP-1 program is priced for “profit not patients”. Your margins are made off of people not knowing there are better options and with a market cap over $9 billion, you seem to be good at it.

When we analyzed reviews, Hims and Hers consistently had some of the lowest review scores for similar online telehealth providers (and they seem to be getting worse over time). When I spoke to patients who tried to get medical care through Hims, many said they were confused about the process, and were often told to first try other medications which are not as effective for weight loss.

It feels like Hims wants to keep their patients on as long of a subscription as possible, not for them to be successful. Their margins are built off of people not knowing there are tools to compare and shop around for compounded prices. So please don’t give your social security number to Hims. (yes, they ask for it)
Maybe it’s personal because I’m trying to safely drive prices for these medications down and increase transparency with GLP Winner, which seems to be against everything that Hims stands for.
